Parent-child Golf Events

The Parent-Child Golf events will always mean more than golf to me. It brings me back to what the Parent-Child relationship is all about. The Parent introduces us to life and all it has to offer. Nurtures us to explore our interests and gain our own independence. For me knowing at a young age that I would have to take care of myself to survive, golf was a natural sport for me to gravitate towards. It is you against the golf course. Golf has so many metaphors for life. Make a good swing you get a good result. Make a bad one and you usually get a bad result. In life your parents teach you right from wrong. In golf you manage the course to shoot your lowest score. In life you manage the ups and downs to achieve your life's goals. The parent mentors you throughout your life's journey.

My Parent-Child journey took me through two families. The Burke family where I was born Tommy Burke. The Shea family who adopted me and I became Tom Shea. I was fortunate to have two families that gave me life and saved my life. The Parent-Child Golf event allows us to experience the ups and downs of the game and how they mirror life. The sadness of the bogey and the joy of the birdie, will it have a happy ending? No matter what, you are whole as the Parent-Child bond/team.

The Parent/Child Golf event will look to keep the fun rolling! We will host both 9 and 18 hole events to honor the legacy of Bettie and Vinny Shea. Bettie was the parent who knew how to keep us in line but allowed us lots of fun. Vinny gave us our sense of humor to remind us we should never grow up! The events will be one adult and one child in a scramble format golf tournament.
